Hunting Rifle Sight In Days
Before you head out to the field, make sure your optics are set up properly by coming out to the Aurora Sportsmen's Club for a rifle sight in day. The public is invited to use our 100 yard range to tune up your firearm on September 18th and October 10th, from 10am to 2pm. Targets will be available for purchase on site. A valid FOID is required for all shooters age 18 and up, minors must be accompanied by a guardian with a valid FOID. For complete details and a downloadable flyer, please click here.
We are proud to announce that the ASC is the host club for “Americas Victory Shoot” – a two-day instructional event celebrating the Supreme Court decision in the McDonald vs. City of Chicago case, essentially ending the handgun ban in the city. The event takes place October 16th and 17th at the club and includes:
- How to rapidly draw from a holster
- Grip and stance
- Elements of defensive marksmanship
- Proper and effective shot placement
- Situational awareness
- How to clear malfunctions
- Various reloads
- Proper mindset
- Lots of shooting exercises
- Exercises and techniques to dramatically improve at home without ammo!
There will also be a vendor area with many exhibitors, interactive discussions and the opportunity to win gear, products and services from participating sponsors. For those of you who have seen the show “Top Shot” on the History Channel, Bill Carns and some of the other contestants from the show will be in attendance (more on that to come). What time is the event?
Be signed in by 9:00 AM on Saturday, the 23rd of October
Where is the event located?
The event is at the Rifle/Pistol ranges at the Aurora Sportsmen's Club in Waterman, IL. For those of you with GPS: (GPS Coordinates to Rifle Pistol Range: N 41.75038 W 88.79677)
Do I need a FOID Card?
Yes, if you're an Illinois Resident, you'll need to be in possession of a FOID card at the event.
What do I need to bring?
Each participant should bring their FOID card (if IL resident), a magazine fed semi-automatic rifle, and a semi-automatic pistol. Recomend at least 1 30 round magazine for the rifle and 2 15 round magazines for the pistol. Loaner shotguns will be available for the shotgun course.
(**Update, if you only have 10-round magazines for your semi auto rifle or pistol, or there aren't higher capacity mags made for your rifle, come on out to the event with 3-10 round magazines. We can modify any course for what you have available. However, Lever Guns and Bolt action rifles are not recommended and won't be allowed on the courses. A shooter simply can not reload them fast enough).
Bring Eye and Ear Protection
Dress for the elements. This event will go on rain or shine.
Ammunition requirements: You'll need about 60 rounds of rifle ammunition and 60 rounds of pistol ammunition. For the shotgun stage, plan on about 10 rounds. If you are using a loaner shotgun, we'll have some shotgun ammunition available at the stage for sale for a small fee.
What kind of rifle can/should I use?
This event is geared towards introducing shooters to the world of Action Shooting. If you have an AR-15 or AK style semi-auto rifle, that'd be your recomended choice. However, if you have a Ruger 10-22 or other magazine fed .22 rifle and have a 30-round magazine, you'll do ok. Just remember, in real life, when the Zombies attack, that .22 will only make them angry! :-)
What if its rainy on the day of the event?
You'll probably get wet. Dress for the weather.
I don't own a pistol, what can I do?
This is a non-competitive event. You can shoot the stages geared towards pistol shooting with a rifle. When the zombies attack, you'll want to use the weapon you have, if that's a rifle, so be it!
