2010 Schedule

Firearm Safety - This is the place to get answers on what to do if you find a gun, how to handle a gun safely, how to speak to your children about firearms and get an introduction to the shooting sports.  Classes are held in a professional yet relaxed environment, led by NRA-certified instructors. The ASC has offered these classes for 20 years now as a service to the community at no charge.  Participants will receive hands-on classroom instruction as well as the opportunity for live-fire exercises. A FOID card is not required for this class.

Civilian Marksmanship Program Clinics - (Click Here For ASC CMP 2010 Flyer) Interested in learning about National Match competition with U.S. military issue rifles?  In conjunction with the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP), the Aurora Sportsmen's Club will conduct National Match Course Clinics.

Dates are:

  • Sunday, September 26th
  • Sunday, October 24th

Three sessions are offered each day, 8am, 10am and 12noon.  Included in the course:

  • Use of Service Grade M1 Garands or Match Grade AR-15 rifles (your choice)
  • M1 Carbines are available for Juniors
  • 50 Rounds of Ammunition
  • 1.5 Hours of Classroom Instruction
  • 1.5 Hours of Range Time

2010 Hunter Education - You must attend all days in the course to receive your certification.

  • July 24, Field Day Only, starts at 8:00am

Utah Concealed Carry - $125

  • Wednesday, July 28th, 6 - 10pm
  • Wednesday, August 25th, 6 - 10pm

  • Wednesday, December 22nd, 6 - 10pm

This Course meets the requirement for the State of Utah to apply for a Utah Concealed Carry Permit.  Students are also required to provide the State of Utah with course completion verification, a fingerprint card and passport photo. The course material includes a review of safe gun handling, responsibility of firearm ownership, concealed carry restrictions, criminal and civil liability, escalation of force continuum, basic handgun nomenclature, basics of ammunition, marksmanship fundamentals, maintenance & cleaning of firearms, concealed carry holsters, firearm & ammunition storage, Federal firearm laws, and Utah State firearm laws.

 

Basic Concealed Carry - $150

Meets the requirements for Florida Concealed Carry

Prerequisites:  Minimum age 21 years old. Student must be an experienced shooter and comply with one of the following prerequisites: Sworn law enforcement officer, armed security guard certification, NRA Basic Pistol Course certificate, NRA First Steps Course Certificate, NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program (Pistol discipline), pistol qualification card, member of the armed forces, military DD214 with pistol qualification, concealed carry permit, or consent of instructor.

Equipment required: Semi-automatic pistol in a caliber larger than .22, a minimum of three magazines & 100 rounds of factory loaded ammunition, strong side holster and an offside double magazine pouch, hearing & eye protection, baseball cap and clothing suitable for the weather.

Course Description: This classroom and practical shooting course covers firearm safety and familiarization, principles of marksmanship, methods of concealed carry, situational awareness and fundamental principles of the use of lethal force.

 

NRA Basic Pistol - $160 ($135 for NRA members)

Prerequisites: None

Equipment required: Hearing & eye protection, baseball cap and clothing suitable for the weather.

Course Description: This beginners course includes both classroom and shooting instruction on the range. It deals with the basic knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for owning and using a pistol safely. The student will learn about pistol parts and operation, ammunition, gun safety, gun cleaning and storage, and shooting fundamentals. Beretta U22 Neo .22 caliber semi-automatic pistols and ammunition are provided. These excellent pistols are new in 2009 and are easy to operate and have minimal recoil. Time permitting; students will have the opportunity to shoot higher caliber semi-automatic pistols and revolvers.

SAFER USA Tactical Pistol - $225

  • Saturday, August 21st, 9am - 4pm

Prerequisites: Minimum age 21 years old. Students must be experienced shooters and comply with one of the following prerequisites: Sworn law enforcement officer, armed security guard certification, NRA Basic Pistol Course certificate, NRA First Steps Course Certificate, NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program (Pistol discipline), pistol qualification card, member of the armed forces, military DD214 with pistol qualification, concealed carry permit, or consent of instructor. NOTE: This course requires reasonable student dexterity and agility. It includes rapid transition from standing to kneeling, sitting and laying on the ground, and moving and shooting.

Equipment required: Semi-automatic pistol in a caliber larger than .22, a minimum of three magazines & 400 rounds of factory loaded ammunition, strong side holster and an offside double magazine pouch, hearing & eye protection, baseball cap and clothing suitable for the weather.

Course Description: This classroom and practical shooting course covers mindset, threat awareness and assessment, safety considerations, shooting fundamentals, shooting positions including moving & shooting and use of cover & concealment, tactical reloading, malfunction drills, combat marksmanship considerations, shooting while injured or wounded, and strong and weak hand shooting.

 

NRA Range Safety Officer - $150 ($125 for NRA members)

  • Saturday, September 18th, 9am - 6pm

Prerequisites: Minimum age 21 years old Equipment required: Bring a three ring binder to hold class materials.

Course Description: This course teaches the basic duties a Range Safety Officer (RSO) performs. It provides a thorough introduction to the role of the RSO, range Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), range safety briefings, range inspections and rules, emergency procedures, and how to clear firearm stoppages and correct malfunctions.

 

NRA Basic Shotgun - $160 ($135 for NRA members)

  • Sunday, September 19th, 8am - 6pm

Prerequisites: None

Equipment required: Hearing & eye protection, baseball cap and clothing suitable for the weather.

Course Description: This beginners course includes both classroom and shooting instruction on the range. It deals with the basic knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for the safe and proper use of a shotgun in shooting a moving target. The student will learn about shotgun parts and operation, shooting fundamentals, cleaning and storing. Both adult and youth model Remington 870 pump action 20 gauge shotguns and 20 gauge shot shells are provided. These are new shotguns for 2009 and were selected for their low recoil and widespread popularity among recreational shooters and hunters. Time permitting; students will have the opportunity to shoot semi-automatic, over-and-under, and slug shotguns.

Long Range Rifle - $160

  • Sunday, August 1st, 9am - 4pm
  • Sunday, September 19th, 9am - 4pm

 The Long Range Rifle course consists of classroom and practical range exercises. Classroom instruction will include a comprehensive discussion of long range ballistics and environmental considerations, caliber and cartridge selection, the value of hand-loading ammunition tuned for specific situations, and basic marksmanship principles. The practical range exercises will allow shooters to practice sighting in their own rifles and long range marksmanship skill practice out to 600 yards.

You should bring your own rifle, a minimum of 30 rounds of ammunition, eye, and hearing protection and clothing appropriate for shooting and the weather.
